Appliance Shopping

I work here at Sealy Design and of all the decision facing our clients choosing appliances may seem on the surface to be one of the more straightforward tasks, easy decisions like stainless steel/black/white, gas/electric, right? But the harder decision that trips up many homeowners is size and why do men always think bigger is better?!

Karen always says, "In the ideal world, it is always best to select your appliances before finalizing and ordering your cabinets and here’s why… once a husband and wife go shopping together things may change."

It’s true... as I discovered this weekend when I went shopping with my husband (and kids).  I had my drafted plans, I had the required dimensions to fit with the plan, I had advice from my designer, I'd done online research… everything pointed to a perfect counter-depth, French-door style fridge. But when we get to the store my dear husband doesn’t care about any of that; he decides the optimal plan doesn't matter, he doesn't want 'counter-depth' anything, he just wants a 'bigger' fridge! How do you reconcile family desires (whether rational or not) with optimal design layout?!

Like many couples we worked it out - after explaining the logic behind the design I then told him to keep out of it.  Problem solved!
