Sealy Girls' Getaway

After a hectic summer of design dilemmas us girls at Sealy Design were in need of a break and planned a trip to my cottage. Thankfully, due to strategic space planning and two separate bunkies my cosy 700 square foot cottage can accommodate the twelve Sealy Sisters and one little munchkin with room to spare. And because I just happen to be the luckiest person I know, we were blessed with clear blue skies and one of the most beautiful last days of the summer season. Armed with ice cold Coronas, seven layer nacho dip and organic non- alcoholic sparkling wine for our pregnant Eva our day of lounging and bonding gossip sessions on the dock had begun. Not even jealous contractors (to be remained nameless) hard at work in the city could get in the way of our girls getaway and as the sun was starting to set, we were not ready for our time by the water to end. Thankfully I had stocked up on Ikea fleece blankets and the girls snuggled up as I got started on lighting a bonfire. With the fire lit and wine bottles uncorked, we passed around yummy appetizers of prosciutto, olives, cheeses and baguettes and prepared to enjoy the sunset and more of each other’s company.

 

After some much needed catching up, it was time for our first game of the evening- “Guess the Baby!” Each of us had brought a photo of ourselves and had to guess who’s who.  Decoy photos including a hand drawn representation, an aged black and white photo submitted by one of our younger Sealy girls and two photos from one sneaky Sealy, resulting in a surprisingly challenging game. Somehow we all still had room for dinner and thanks to Shannon and Lisa, we got to work on preparing a delicious and creative meal. For dinner we wanted something fun and interactive with a little something for everyone while accommodating a vegetarian and a variety of allergies. Denise came up with the great idea of a cheese fondue and a raclette with a wide assortment of meat, veggies and more cheese with chocolate fondue and fruit for dessert. With appetites finally satisfied, out came the vintage records, more bottles of wine (of course) and time for our next game of concocting a new Sealy signature drink inspired by our cottage getaway. While we love our Signature Sealy Slammer (find recipe in our notes section), it’s always nice to have an alternate or two for our many upcoming events. True to our creative nature the judging categories included: taste, presentation, name and a theme song. After much debate Shannon and my Simple Sealy Slammer Island Style came out on top with its refreshing combination of Mint, Prosceco, Cucumber, Spiced Rum, Coconut Rum, home- made simple sugar with a celery garnish. Tired out from impromptu dancing and incessant giggles we moved back outside where Lisa had taken over as Fire Designer to keep the bonfire raging. Needless to say our cottage trip was a great success! And as Diane, our nominated “Life of the Party” said “I felt like a teenager again!”
